He was the one who came up with the absurd JFK “Magic Bullet” Theory from the Warren Commission. His life was an example of why politicians should be allowed to serve no more than 2-3 terms in the Senate or House. RIP Arlen.

I’m sad to see Specter go. Two personal stories about him:

1. I was at an event with him once and we were having pictures taken. He told me to take my name tag off for the picture. That’s something I never forgot (and its good advice too).

2. I was taking a cab in Philly once and Specter was running for re-election (the last time he ran as a Republican) so we talked about him. The cab driver talked about how his mother got caught up in the corrupt Philly magistrate system in the 1960s. She wrote Specter, who was DA at the time, a letter about what happened to her and how unfair it was. She didn’t think anything would come of it but Specter actually came to her house and spent an hour talking to her about the problems with the system. He said he was trying to fight it and wanted her to know that. There are a lot of other stories like that from his early days.

I know a lot of people dislike him but you have to remember that he is a throw back to the old Republican Party. It was not always anti-abortion and it was fairly moderate in the Northeast. That doesn’t mean those positions are right but its not like he was imposing some alien positions on the GOP. And as others mentioned, he did some good things for the GOP like leading the fight for Clarence Thomas.

That's mean but I LOLed.

Happy trails Arlen, I wished you'd stayed a democrat in the first place.
