GARY — A change of venue for the Gary Police Department’s second gun buyback of the year is expected to get even more firearms off the streets.

Nine churches around the city will accept guns of all stripes, Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram told the Finance Committee when he came before it Wednesday asking for a $20,000 appropriation to fund the buyback.

Residents will receive Wal-Mart gift cards in the amounts of $50 for handguns, shotguns and rifles, and $100 for assault weapons should the Common Council approve the ordinance at its Tuesday meeting.

Many think criminals are the ones who are turning in weapons when the department conducts a buyback, but that’s not always true, Ingram said. In fact, if the department were to wait for the criminals, they’d be waiting for an awfully long time.

These turnins are political theater designed to delegitimize armed citizens. Their effects are to take ignorant women's valuable property for a pittance, to drive up the demand for new guns, and to waste public resources.

What? This is a kill yourself program for liberal Christians?

In Gary, find the Christians and then you will know who to home invade, rape and pillage.

Take my WalMart certificate and make a down payment on that new shotgun I’ve been wanting. Cool!

These are the good, upstanding people who aren’t ashamed to turn them in,” he said. “Criminals are the ones breaking into their houses when they’re at church or out and stealing them.”

Yeah, criminals are scouting out who's turning in their guns so they know which houses are easy targets.

Ironic.

They are asking for money, essentially taken at the point of a gun from the people who earned it.

They will be using this money taken using guns, to buy more guns.

And they wonder why we all consider them thugs in blue uniforms.

My understanding is most of the guns collected are broken, but if I recall correctly, some collectors were waiting outside the collection points and offering premium $$$.
