I remember a fishing boat going straight down. Its netting had to get caught into a submarine. Question: Was it U.S. or Russian? The leftists blamed guess whom?

During the Bush 2 administration, a USA sub off Hawaii did one of those 35 degree max power surfacing maneuvers where half the sub is in mid-air before it planes out again.

Tragically, it came up under a Japanese fishing vessel, sunk it, and killed most of their seamen.

Even worse, the sub had Republican VIP civilians on board, and the captain was putting on a show for his guests.

Around this same time, another sub slammed head on into a sea mount in the central Pacific.

Miraculously, the sub didn't rupture, but a seaman in the torpedo room died from a head injury, and several other seamen were seriously injured.
