MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) - Idaho State University-Meridian as well as Renaissance High School were in lockdown mode Wednesday after there were reports of an armed subject on campus.
Police tell KBOI-TV that a husband and wife went to the school campus.
The woman apparently went inside the school, but the man stayed behind in the vehicle, but was parked improperly. A parking lot attendant later went to the vehicle to ask the driver to move, but saw the man put a gun on the passenger seat. (Photos from the Scene >>>)
The attendant went back to the school and told people about the gun. The word quickly spread and then police were notified. School officials quickly put both schools into lockdown.
The call came in at about 1:43 p.m. Boise and Meridian PD were on scene sweeping the campus for potential risks.
"Take shelter and lock doors and windows," Idaho State University said on its website. "Do not move from sheltered position. Await further instructions."
Police say no laws were broken because the man who brought the gun on campus had a concealed weapons permit.
I agree; those kids got screwed out of a while of education due to zero tolerance laws, and administrators going bonkers because someone visiting the campus had the audacity to take responsibility for defending themselves.
Hoplophobia run amok.
So that young people may know how much this country has changed, I’ll tell a personal story. When I started college in 1972, I kept a rifle securely locked in my dorm closet. On weekends, I would routinely carry the cased rifle from the dorm, through the parking lot, to my car. And back again. No one ever batted an eye, much less freaked out. Many of my dorm mates also had guns. It was common knowledge. It was matter of fact.
In high school, half the pickup trucks in our school parking lot had gun racks in the back window. In Houston.
Damn, I feel old.
During the fall and winter, my Dad used to pick me up after school (jr. high) and we’d go shoot wood ducks flying to roost down a creek. He’d have our shotguns and ammo in the pickup and he’d park on the side of the road on school property. I’d walk about 50 yards over the school lawn to the truck, hop in, and we’d be on our way.
Oh the horror, guns and ammo on school property! Add in the fact he was a deacon in the church, and the spin today would be that you have an example of a right wing religious lunatic endangering innocent children. Of course it was really a great upbringing with a loving father, that, thanks to liberals, ever declining numbers of kids will get to experience.
Im surprised the campus cops didn’t arrest him for improper parking.
