I worked in a school where I knew that the father of a little girl had wanted to abort her. She wasn’t special needs in any way, he was just done having kids. Every single time I had an interaction with that precious child, I got a catch in my throat. I’m sure the daddy had a change of heart and regrets his former thinking. How could you not, looking into the eyes of this beautiful 6 year old, you can’t help but think, what if?

For anyone who ever truly has ever loved a child, it is hard to comprehend how they could make the decision to take a child’s life. For people who are still trying to love themselves, I understand.

I do a lot of therapy work with women and often the secret abortion pops up in the conversation. Often it is 40 or 50 years later till they find the wound it created in their soul. While I do not judge, I have never met a woman who did not subconsciously judge themselves for having an abortion. Never! Heck, it’s very common for women to judge themselves for miscarriages that they had no control over.

Sad part of it, I have watched women destroy loving relationships with family members and spouses, just because they knew that the other person would not approve of the abortion. It didn’t matter that the other person did not know about it. Guilt works in mysterious ways.

I have also found that the soul or spirit of the aborted child hangs around the mother, totally lost they just continue to cling.

We were through having kids after 4, so I made an appointment to get “fixed”. I had the initial consult, but never followed through, and along came #5.

This time we were really done - the minivan was full. I was on the table and they put that pre-op iodine solution on me and everything shriveled up and went into hiding. (Hey doc, what are these two new lump in my throat?) The doctor wasn’t sure he could find the right thing to cut, so we postponed. Along came number 6.

God new our family needed some symmetry, We had boy, girl, then two boys, and we finished up with two girls. Now all the big ones are teenagers (except the biggest, who is no longer one.) They are awesome teenagers - my mother’s blessing/curse of I hope you have kids just like you didn’t work - but they are still teenagers. It’s nice to have two sweet little daddy’s girls around the house for a little while longer, before they turn into teen agers too.
