Great analogy!
When I was young there was a telephone number that people could call and for some reason the switching mechanism was bad at the phone company. As a result whenever you call that telephone number you would be connected to a whole bunch of other people who were using the same number to communicate through what we called “the pipeline.”
It was like an early form of Twitter. This all took place approximately 1962 or 63.
