Pakistani girl still unconscious after surgery; clerics mostly silent on shooting

ISLAMABAD — Doctors have removed a bullet lodged near the spine of Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani girl gunned down on her school bus by the Taliban, officials said Wednesday. Yousafzai’s chances of survival improved after the surgery, but she remained unconscious and in critical condition.

Police said they had identified a shooting suspect but had not yet apprehended him. Akbar Khan Hoti, chief of police for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where Yousafzai lives, told a TV news channel that the attacker had traveled from eastern Afghanistan.

As schoolchildren throughout the nation held prayer vigils for the teenage education activist, many Pakistani political leaders and international figures expressed revulsion over the assassination attempt in the volatile Swat Valley region.

But religious parties and mosque leaders were largely silent, highlighting the grip that right-wing clerics hold on this increasingly conservative, majority-Muslim country. Religious leaders here rarely denounce suicide bombings or sectarian attacks for fear of provoking the Taliban.

Another day, another hideous satanic act by the followers of Muhammed (swine feces be upon him) and their repulsive, loathsome god.

Fortunately, Hell has plenty of room for these “clerics,” who condone the shooting of girls because they want to learn to read.

I’m sure BO will be making a speech about this real “war on women” any day now.

My 14 year-old daughter happened to catch this on the morning news. She was cheering that the girl survived. What a contrast between my daughter’s world and this poor girl’s world.

I used to not want anybody to end up in Hell, before I had kids. Now, I think that God is Just and has a special, eternal punishment for people who shoot at innocent 14 year-old girls.

Doctors have removed a bullet lodged near the spine of Malala Yousafzai...

When something like this is mentioned, you can unfortunately expect temporary to permanent paralysis. Words fail but this is the same culture & religion that has acid attacks upon women and child 'marriage' to rapists. It becomes difficult to know the difference between a country 'bedeviled' by terrorism and a pseudo-country that lets terror be a political force.

Gives us a whole different view on why next-door India has such bad relations with their genetic cousins, doesn't it? With both of them being nuclear armed, there is nothing comfortable with this region.

I believe that she and her family are Muslim.

She first came to attention by writing a blog for the BBC protesting the fact that the Taliban had closed her school, and forbidden education to women.

She's won numerous international awards for her courage, as she's been continuously threatened by the Taliban.

Yeah, I had heard about her campaign but never knew her religion. There are more muslims killed throughout the world by muslims than are killed by killers from all other religions put together. Muslims kill adherents to every religion more than any other religion kills others BY FAR.

at first they refuse to pay for your birth control pills....see what happens next....they won’t let you learn to read.....if you could read, you might discover that Walgreens, Walmart, zillions of others, have birth control for a few bucks a month....wouldn’t want to educate women.....not while we have a war against them....oh no!!!
