The only way unemployment dropped to 7.8% is if the number of discouraged job seekers went way up. Why isn’t anyone reporting that?

Employment participation rate is also a good true measure of real employment.

I believe the “discouraged job seekers” are the ones whose unemployment insurance has run out and have been dropped from the unemployment count. So, yes, they could be considered discouraged.
