A bargain!
I was thinking along the same lines. I have a Rotax 2 stoke snow mobile engine on the front of my ultralight airplane that puts out 28hp. It has a single cylinder of considerably larger displacement than your motocross bike, but it is very light and dependable. This V-8 is an amazing accomplishment. But obviously scaling down a V-8 is not done for any practical purpose.
I didn’t think that needed a sarc tag.
Holy Carp!
I just looked up the 2011 equivalent of my 1981 motocross bike, and the new one is listed at 53 hp!
Some kid’s gonna get killed!
To be honest I don’t know what my Honda 100 cost. I didn’t have time to ask about that. I had trails to ride, hills to climb and neighbors to PO.
“I got it, garbage disposal.”
Just imagine what else Tim Allen on “Home Improvement” could have done with this little puppy!
I don’t remember the V10s being rev-limited, but I do recall they used to wind those up to around 19k.
For the engine that is the subject of this article, I’d imagine it could rev a lot higher than 10k if it had overhead cams. Needless to say, at 6.09 cubic inches it has very little reciprocating mass.

After visual inspection, I can confidently state that the supercharger shown in the photo above is synchronous (or cogged) belt driven, and not gear driven.
Can you imagine having to adjust the valves on that?
IIRC it was only BMW that went over 20k, and it had detrimental effects on reliability. I don’t think you can go much over 10k without overhead pneumatic valve springs.
Mine puts out around 13 I think. Click on my username and look at my about me page.
Very nice.
I went through a stage where I had two running Cubs, one more for parts, and a LOT of attachments, but I traded most everything for some grading work. It was all just rusting outside.
The old stuff is fun, but when I want to cut grass, frankly I just hop on my new(esh) Cub Cadet and enjoy that hydraulic drive.
There is a great 4th of July parade near me that I go every year that has tons of trailer queens tractors, including a lot of Farmalls, mostly Deeres, and even a few steamers.
Fun little bike.
It didn’t. I just like trivia.
