Watching one of those nature channels that show the predators of nature at work, I saw an immediate analogy the other day.

They were showing how hyenas eat their prey even before its dead. You watch the poor beast struggle in vain as they pile on, and start ripping it apart from all directions.

I have the sense that the United States is such a beast in peril. You have the media, the sycophant class, the corrupt Chicago machine, and enemies around the world, all diving in for a meal, while the electorate debates whether it's worth struggling any more at all.

In the nature shows, the beast eventually gives up the ghost, and the hyenas get hungry again, seeking another beast on which to feast. It's what they are, they cannot do anything else.

Actually, this is what bugs me about Mitt. He doesn't have the fight in him to scare off the hyenas. No, instead he has to say nice things about them (even stuff that cannot possibly be true, e.g., "Obama cares about the middle class"). Almost like, if he's nice, he expects them to be civil back.

This is both naive and dangerous. He needs to go for the kill and make them scatter. Otherwise they pile on, and will eat him up, pretty much the way they have been for months now.
