"But it is not just a few overweight kids that are causing calorie cuts across the cafeteria. One out of every four adolescents are too overweight to join the military...
Removing the junk food from our schools should be part of comprehensive action...
The bottom line is that the armed services must have a sufficient pool of fit young adults to draw from in order to field enough recruits...to staff a 21st century military."

Am I the only one who finds this disturbing?

These people are, themselves, fascist pigs. Repeal the law. Take the regulation writers who came up with this one out for a sound beating on the MALL.

I tracked down these rules and savaged them on the basis of the harm they do to diabetics and the gluten intolerant ~ a good 5% of the student bodies ~ and they didn't bother responding to my statement ~ as is required by law.

Their intent is to take the load off Michelle Obama's butt ~ not to make school lunches healthier.

I found it disturbing enough that for the first time in my life I directed a "shut up' to a flag officer.

I don't think this former NCO has ever done that before. But he needs it.

Disturbing in what way? For Obama as the commander in chief, or for the fact that some of these kids are so fat that they already developed type 2 diabetes, i.e. MODY, Maturity Onset Diabetes in the Young?

The job market is bad news now, especially for kids. The first time I had a regular job was in the Army in 1969. Even if they want to join one of the reserve components, they have to make the standards of active duty to join.

No you are not, I too find it very disturbing. It’s like another sign that the “elites” are planning on going back to the draft.

And I can see that happening with all of the social experiments being made in the military like the repeal of DADT.

My thought is that school lunches are not where the problem is. school lunches should provide children with roughly 1/3 the calories they need to get through the day. Hungry children are not going to learn well, even if they are overweight. The thing is, when we did not have this obesity problem, we still served lunches that offered a lot of calories and “junk food.” This has not changed and this has not caused the problem. The problem lies with parents not being educated, perhaps, and this is where Michelle Obama could do some good. I also think more exercise would be a good idea as well. Let's bring back good old fashioned PE five times a week, not to mention recess twice a day where the children go outside and play (except in really bad weather when they play in the gym.)

a disturbing lie....This is only a valid argument if the nation has a draft. Since we have a volunteer army those who volunteer will be the ones motivated to be in shape....this is more admin propaganda to exert control where they should not
