What I don’t understand is; why we can’t just drain them. Put in a needle or two and run their blood into a drain. No drugs or electricity. Cheap and humane.

Put in a needle or two and run their blood into a drain.The blood should go to any needy blood bank. Any reusable parts should be taken as well. It's called "giving back".
