Just a couple of days ago I heard on radio that the reason that the van could not be placed closer to the concrete foundations was that there were a bunch of government (Secret Service?) cars parked in the way.

I’m not sure that’s right .... but in an age when disinformation is part of every government and semigovernmental grovelling news medium, that may have been pabulum for the credulous, intended to shore up WTC property values and forestall an exodus of leases from high-rise buildings all over America. You can imagine what the destruction of the WTC by a bomb in 1993 would have done to properties in Chicago (Hancock Tower, Sears Tower), Dallas, Houston, and other high-rise-rich CRE markets.
