Morning Jay: How the Media Misrepresents the Race
Weekly Standard ^ | 9/17/12 | JAY COST

The gap between the way the media characterizes the presidential race and what is actually happening is growing larger by the day. In particular, we see a systematic emphasis on news items that favor the president and a discounting of evidence that disfavor him.

The mainstream media's recent coverage of the Democratic National Convention was fawning – little or no mention was made of the extremist abortion plank or the decisive defeat on the floor of the motion to reinstate a reference to God in the platform (nevertheless gaveled through by the party establishment) and an acknowledgment that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel (pro-Israel language that had been included in previous party platforms). So, the Democrats won their convention week with a bullet. Next, even though Obama’s bounce was modest by historical standards, and he still could not pull above 50 percent nationwide or in the key swing states, the mainstream media dutifully declared not only that Obama was winning, but that the Romney campaign was in utter disarray.

And what did the media overlook last week?

-Gas prices increased on average by $0.04, despite the end of the summer driving season. With Brent crude prices remaining elevated, gas prices are probably not going to come down any time soon.

-The Consumer Price Index increased by 0.6 percent month-over-month. This is an extremely large jump, built mostly around increased energy prices.

-Retail sales, excluding gas and cars, were flat.

-Manufacturing production fell by more than 1 percent last month alone, and capacity utilization dropped by 1 point.

-The jobs report from August was an absolute misery.

Joseph Goebbel’s would be proud to claim today’s MSM as being his propaganda arm. In fact, Joseph Goebbel’s would be proud to be in Barry’s Regime.

I’ve stopped looking at this election as Obama/Rimshot Joe vs. Romney/Ryan. I look at it as the American class vs. The Entitled class.

Cognitive dissonance.

Two words that apply more and more to the “lame-stream media”.

In many cases, they do know and recognize the very distinct failures of the Current Regime squatting in the White Hut, but they pass these off as “merely temporary”, with some vain hope that the early setbacks and deficiencies of judgment will be somehow rectified if The Won is kept on in the Oval Orfice.

But equally at fault is their failure to recognize the very positive qualities that Mitt Romney brings to the table for observation and discussion. The LSM does not even deign to look at Romney’s very impressive record of accomplishment, they only pick apart some very minor lapse or utterance that in context, is well-reasoned and shows controlled application. So even these “shortcomings” are in reality all part of the wider range of deeds and transactions that have benefited the world at large.

In the objective scale of service to mankind, which candidate offers the greater good to all? Even for those people that Barack Hussein Obama chooses to believe he is “helping”, ultimately they are left no better off than before, and in a good many instances, they are in fact worse off, sometimes by a very wide margin. If they were poor and oppressed in 2008, they are poorer and even more oppressed today.

Even for those who somehow managed to become a “winner” under the rules so recently introduced, it is an artificial elevation, and subject to collapse along with virtually every other element of the now foundering and precarious economy of this nation and all the rest of the world.

It has been said, the good Lord keeps watch over children, drunks, fools and Americans. Even when they end up stumbling and falling down. You see, God does not PREVENT the stumbling and falling down, but is there in the aftermath. Get up, or lie there writhing and whining.

Free will is such a curse for some people.

Seems the fools at the New York Times have forgotten what 'general circulation' means. Every city with one liberal newspaper is NOT good journalism. It's not what a free press is about - it's what a monopoly is about...
