One reason democracy failed in ancient Greece was that the vote would to the side of whoever delivered the best speech.
Gift of gab and crowd-swaying outweighed reason, justice, etc.
Same thing happening now, but with billions of media dollars.
Which is why the Founders set up the US as a representative republic, not a popularity contest.
I still am astounded at the brilliance of the founding fathers.
