I was at the outdoor range this afternoon, and there were a few new shooters there. At one point, when the RSO called a cease-fire, a couple of the newbies started down range to change targets before the RSO had declared the range safe and given the go-ahead to go down range.

He was on the PA in a nano-second, stopping them dead in their tracks and getting them back behind the firing line. He told them in no uncertain terms, "The only time you guys will see me jump your **** is when you do something that could get people shot".

I was glad our RSO's take safety so seriously, and I think the new shooters learned a good lesson.

I am always on hot ranges, and we kind of expect people to use the safety between their ears.

The folks that **** up the most tend to be cops who think they know it all and get complacent.

Once it leaves the pipe you can’t take it back.

I don’t know how many times I have seen someone bring a gun into a gun shop and say its not loaded, when the entire mag is full.

Always look and always assume the thing is loaded.

I'm always polite and kind, and review the rules before I take anyone on to the range.

And quite honestly even if you are certain it isn’t loaded why would you ever point it at an other person and **** around?

I don’t tolerate fools well.

Up until today, I had never seen a 45-70 hand cannon. I overheard someone ask a guy two lanes down what he was shooting, and when he answered, I looked over.

The dang thing had a barrel that would put Pinochio's nose to shame! Looked similar to this.

I had a ahole in Leo Davici Airport put a muzzle in my ear with the safety off and finger on the trigger while he asked me for ID and was sipping a cup off coffee.

Thanks. I’m going to borrow a neighbor farm’s Cat-9 and “move” the backstop mound out to 300yds. My farm equipment would take too long; his dozer can do it in short order. I will still have to travel 3hrs to shoot the Barrett, though.
