Bomb targets U.S. mission in Libya's Benghazi (JUNE 6, 2012, NO SECURITY ADDED!!)

A bomb exploded outside the U.S. diplomatic mission in the Libyan city of Benghazi overnight, an attack that could be retaliation for the killing, in a U.S. drone strike, of al Qaeda's Libyan second-in-command. An improvised explosive device was dropped from a passing vehicle onto the road outside the mission, in an upmarket area of central Benghazi. It exploded moments after, slightly damaging the building's gate, U.S. and Libyan officials said. Washington had confirmed a few hours before the attack that a U.S.-operated drone had killed Abu Yahya al-Libi, a Libyan-born cleric and senior al Qaeda operative, in Pakistan. The U.S. State Department said it had asked Libyan authorities to increase security around U.S. facilities. "We deplore the attack on our diplomatic mission in Benghazi," State Department spokesman Mark Toner told a news briefing. Toner said a local guard reported that an attack was underway against one of the Benghazi compound's perimeter walls and warned diplomatic staff to take cover. The bombing will revive concerns about the lack of security in Libya, where last year Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in an uprising supported by NATO air power. The fragile government is still struggling to restore stability after the revolt and arms and explosives looted from Gaddafi's arsenals are easily available. Toner said Washington was awaiting results from an investigation by the Libyan government, but had no reason to suspect the attack was retaliation for Libi's killing.

On June 6th, 2012, Al Qaeda set off a bomb in FRONT of the consulate in Benghazi. They FILMED the event and uploaded it to YOUTUBE, complete with pictures of the twin towers, OBL, and a tribute to Abu Yahya al-Libi who was killed on June 4th in a drone strike in Pakistan. The Al Qaeda bombers also LEFT PAMPHLETS at the consulate threatening to get revenge for al-Libi’s killing.

I think the time to do a security review would have been IMMEDIATELY after the bombing, and the action taken would have been to have more than 7 LOCAL SECURITY guards watching the perimeter on the night of attack. Also, putting bomb proof doors and bulletproof glass windows in might have been a smart idea.

This scandal infuriates me, and NO media is reporting that the consulate was attacked THREE MONTHS ago and nothing was done to increase security!!

There was also an RPG attack on the British Ambassador this summer (but I don’t know the precise date).

Can’t say there weren’t warning signs - only that they were ignored.

The attack on the British Ambassador was one day AFTER the bomb was exploded in front of the US consulate:

12 June 2012 / AP, CAIRO

A vehicle carrying Britain's ambassador to Libya has been attacked with rocket-propelled grenades in Benghazi, days after a bomb went off just outside the U.S. consulate in the eastern city that was the cradle of last year's uprising.

Two of Ambassador Dominic Asquith's bodyguards were injured in the Monday attack. Britain's Foreign Office said the ambassador was not hurt, but the Libyan state news agency reported he was one of two people lightly injured.

Check Canadian travel reports and warnings.

A British Embassy convoy was hit by a grenade on June 11, 2012, injuring one person. An IED exploded at the gate of the U.S. Consulate on June 6, 2012. On May 22, 2012 a grenade attack targeted the International Red Cross offices and an explosion hit a column of UN vehicles on 10 April, 2012. These events highlight that the situation continues to be unstable and problematic.

Also interesting that on Sept 6th Canada closes embassy in Iran, gives Iranian diplomats in Canada 5 days to leave. I think I will be checking Canadian travel advisories over US.

The mosque that serves as their armory should have mysteriously exploded next day.

Have you ever wondered why Hillary selected Thomas Pickering to chair the investigation, and to include General Mullen - the man who called the Coptic Christian on the phone - don’t know who the others are on the panel but Thomas Pickering is an “old friend” of Hillary’s. She called him that at an award dinner for the International Crisis Group. I’ve been reading up on him and finding some interesting things. I just don’t have enough time at the moment as I’m moving but thought this might interest you. If it does I have some material I gathered from some time ago. I wasn’t surprised about the skirmish between Syria (Shi’a) and Turkey. I’m figuring the end game is an Ottoman II caliphate...

issa is doing an end run around Hillary. His hearing Wednesday with Charlene Lamb (the State Dept sacrifical lamb) will now be overshadowed by his newest witness Lt. Co. Andy Wood takes the stand/ Since he is Nat’l Guard, Hillary can’t get to him, and his story will bury the entire story the obama administration is trying to spin.

Even earlier. It was known in April 2012 that Qumu, a former Gitmo detainee, was in Libya had taken over the leadership of one of the rebel factions.
