The Cairo press release had to be at least approved by NEA or someone in NSC. I served with Ambassador Patterson in Riyadh. This does not sound like something Anne would have written or approved. It looks like the product of a political appointee who is more concerned about the domestic political impact than an experienced diplomat.
It would be interesting to learn who crafted and approved the press release. Hillary will throw Anne under the bus regardless.
