Egyptians angry at film scale U.S. embassy walls

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy on Tuesday, tore down the American flag and burned it during a protest over what they said was a film being produced in the United States that insulted Prophet Mohammad.

In place of the U.S. flag, the protesters tried to raise a black flag with the words "There is no God but God, and Mohammad is his messenger", a Reuters witness said.

Once the U.S. flag was hauled down, some protesters tore it up and showed off pieces to television cameras. Others burned the remains outside the fortress-like embassy building in central Cairo. But some protesters objected to the flag burning.

Many Muslims consider any depiction of the Prophet to be offensive.

"This movie must be banned immediately and an apology should be made," said 19-year-old Ismail Mahmoud, a member of the so-called "ultras" soccer supporters who played a big role in the uprising that brought down Hosni Mubarak last year.

He called on President Mohamed Mursi, Egypt's first civilian president and an Islamist, to take action, without giving details of the film that angered him or other protesters.

About 20 people stood on top of the embassy wall, while about 2,000 protesters gathered outside. The demonstrators were mainly supporters of Islamist groups or "ultras" youths.

Rafik Farouk, 38, an Egyptian Christian, also took part. "I am here because I am Egyptian and reject anything that insults Islam or anything that sparks division in Egypt," he said.

Washington has a big mission in Egypt, partly because of a huge aid programme that followed Egypt's signing of a peace treaty with Israel in 1979. The United States gives $1.3 billion to Egypt's military each year and offers the nation other aid.

Failure of a host nation to stop a pre-planned mob attack upon an embassy constitutes an act of war.

The Flag of the United States was allowed to fall into enemy hands without casualties to defend it. Why? If the Ambassador does not wish to utilize deadly force to defend the soil of the United States Embassy and the nation’s symbolic flag, then why should the American taxpayers permit any further expenditures for a U.S. Marine Corps security detail which is denied to fulfill their mission?

Is the very name of the film offensive??? I suspect censorship or cowardice in reporting this story.

BTW: The Brits cowered also; in the face of many death threats, they decided not to air “Islam: the untold story”
You may be able to watch the >1 hour long documentary here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/islam-the-untold-story/4od

Obama and his girlfriends will accuse us of being “alarmist.”

And as Mark Steyn would reply, “If this doesn’t alarm you, then nothing will.”

I hear the cries of those who protest when they say US foreign aid comes with 'strings attached'. In my opinion, foreign aid should always come with strings. That's the point. Supposed goodwill is crap and everyone knows it. And the strings should be very clear as long as we are shelling out good money. You support every important thing we do in your area of the world or in the UN. We'll tell you what those things are. Do not oppose us... ever.

There are parts of the world (most of it, actually) where the only thing that is respected is strength. When we meekly hand them cash, they view it as submission at best, not friendship or compromise.

The only real counterexample, and a weak one at that, is Israel. There we have a partnership. They keep an eye one and occasionally kill threats to world peace and we give them guns and money. Sounds good to me!

The article doesn’t name the film.

Says it’s “unclear.”

I find this hard to believe or understand. Obama made a famous speech in Egypt and the entire middle east became our friends and respect and admiration followed.

This must be a Bush/ Romney plot trying to undo everything Obama has done to fix the region. /s

And why didn’t the marines open fire and send these savages to their 72 virgins?

Maybe because their CIC has issued bullsh*t rules of engagement and would have hung them out to dry?

IOW, the same reason the marines guarding the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979 didn't do the same.

What movie?

Maybe it was Cecil B. De Mille's "The Crusades."

Indeed, how did they get past the Marines to get to the flag?

You mean our boys are actually allowed to carry live ammunition when in the company of Muslims? You know how it is on our southern border, with airballs and hairbrushes only, allowed.

'Son of Hamas' to Make Film About Islam, Phophet Muhammad (Cairo Embassy attack)

"I think this is the time to expose the real nature of Islam," said Yousef to reporters gathered. "Islam is a religion of war and most Muslims don't understand the true nature of Islam. This is the time and I would like to announce it today here from Jerusalem, next to the Temple Mount."

According to one article I read, supposedly, the diplomatic staff had been removed prior to the attack. They had been forewarned of a demonstration by protestors. The article also said “U.S. security guards” fired a volley of shots as a warning to the crowds outside the wall. Wouldn’t those guards have been Marines? Haven’t heard anything about any further shots being fired, and it appears none were if the scumbags were able to breach the wall and take down our flag. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they replaced our Marines with muzzie guards.

Their filthy hands besmirch Old Glory. Their filthy hands reach out for anything that the American dollar has bought; by the same American funds to their country.

Will someone, somewhere cry.

Enough, no damn more?

They were probably told to retreat into the building, lock it down and fire only if the building was breached. That is only a guess. But, I assume the ambassador was told by the Obama regime not to fire on his pals of Izzlum. Dudden want to take the chance one of his family members might be kilt! Otherwise, I would have shot at everyone coming over the wall. But, it is time to pull our people out of all these countries. They are just sitting ducks. Plus, there probably is no more than a platoon size Marine garrison there if that many. 30 guys cannot not hold off thousands for long.
