Oh, they’re trying both all right. They’d be happier if they could swing the vote, but absent that, they’ll cry foul as you say.

On another note, but a similar one, the Post poll of NC was considered an outlier because it showed 30% of blacks voting for Romney. Yet, with black Southern preachers hammering Obama for his recent approval of gay marriage, maybe that 30% number in places like NC isn’t that far off? The God/Jerusalem fiasco at the convention couldn’t have helped either with that same group of black voters.

It would be interesting to find that same drift present in other polls, particularly in the swing states.

Elaborating on the point I made about the black vote above, the Chicago teachers’ strike could be incorporated here also.

Ryan has already gone on the attack, asking the Obama administration where it stands, with Emanuel or the union, which is a great move.

Now, if Romney (or Ryan) would make a pitch for the need to help black center-city kids who are failing to be properly educated (juxtaposed with that picture of the nearly all-white teachers holding their signs I saw yesterday), along with a reminder that Obama deep-sixed the DC voucher program that so many black parents were in favor of, I think it might be possible to seriously cut into the Democrat’s black vote in this election.

I might be kidding myself, but Romney has been served up some real nice softballs here, and so far only Ryan’s taken a good cut at them.

Summing up the targets: 1) Supporting Gay marriage, 2) setting up a Godless convention, 3) taking the side of the highest paid teachers in the country over center-city black students, and 4) doing away with the DC voucher program black parents wanted.

A possible message: “You voted for Obama in 2008 for the same reason many other Americans did; to show the world that America was ready for a black President. This year, you need to vote to remove that same President because he was not ready to lead America, and is in fact leading America in a direction you truly don’t want to go.”
