Akin’s comment put the whole Republican candidates in an unnecessary position.

Akin said "I" not "We".

He spoke for himself even though his position does mirror closely to the platform of the RNC.

LOL... you really believe there’s a difference between we and I in this case? Akin is used as Republican personified. As long as he’s still Republican candidate, the Dhims will always be able to generalize their attacks. And don’t try to blurr what he said about woman’s self mechanism against pregnancy with the party’s platform against abortion. It’s stretching. After all, Akin himself apologized for what he said, or at least for the way he said it. It means he acknowledged he should have said things differently.
