maybe people and state party leaders will have learned that we can’t nominate dingbats for high profile Senate seats just because they are “really conservative”.

And maybe not. We didn't learn it in 2010 with Sharron Angle in NV against Harry Reid. Nor did we learn from Christine O'Donnell in Delaware. We'll keep shooting ourselves in the foot until we're permanently crippled.

By "We" may I assume you mean the party bosses and consultants in Washington, like Karl Rove issuing murder threat jokes, who have more negative things to say about conservative GOP candidates than they do of the opposition???
