New Jobless Claims Fall for First Time in a Month (revised last upward)
Fox business ^

The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits fell last week to its lowest level in a month, an upbeat signal for a labor market that has struggled to create enough jobs.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 365,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

It was the first drop in new claims since the week that ended Aug. 4 and the lowest level since then as well.

I’m sure the media will be in full orgasm over this “drop”. I won’t be surprised if the unemployment rate magically drops as well.

This gives media a headline, and nothing else. it won’t put a dent in the job record. We’ve been hearing the same thing for 4 years. Yada yada yada.

To get unemployment down, we need to see it at (regularly) less than 350k. Anything between 350 and 375 is treading water. Over 375k we are losing.

Our local commie rag ran an Op-Ed by Richard Trumka a week or so ago in which he claimed that the unemployment rate is 7.6%.

No doubt most of the idiot readers believed it.

It will, undoubtedly, be revised upward next week (after the democrat convention).

Tough to spin that as good news tonight in CLT. I bet they try, though. It’s the same old news.

“I’m sure the media will be in full orgasm over this “drop”. I won’t be surprised if the unemployment rate magically drops as well.”

There are three problems:

The last report is revised upward. Shocker.
People are still falling out of the workforce.
Any jobs out there are low-paying service work.

The perception of the individual is that it still sucks, which it does. You can run a headline today, but that is all you can do.

Look for unemployment to drop Friday. 7.9% as they fail to report how many gave up looking.

Obama’s speech tonight- he will talk like he is Clinton, he will run the rest of this race as if he is Bill Clinton. Ads will be all Bill Clinton's face and voice. He can't run on his record, so he will run on BJs.

I’m sure the media will be in full orgasm over this “drop”.

After Tuesday night's uncontrollable spasms over Michelle and Wednesday night's frenzy of passion with Slick Willy the freakoids must be nearly sated.

On another note, to satisfy the many homosexuals, lesbans and other sexual perverts in the arena it looks like Thursday has been planned as Queer Night with a full slate of activities and speaches by sexual wierdos.

- Jill Biden will address the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) Caucus.

- Light in the loafers, Charlie Crist, disgruntled former republican to speak to the delegates.

- Lesbian Rep. Tammy Baldwin (Wis.) will speak to the delegates.

- Flaming faggot Barney Frank (D-Mass.) will speak to the delegates (bumped from Wed. night).

- Accused homosexual and obvious pansy Barack Obama to speak and accept democrat party nomination.

Oh, this is great news!

Now those 365,000 who lost their jobs last WEEK can fill those 201,000 jobs that ADP claims were created last MONTH!

Must be something wrong with my calculator. It keeps giving me a negative result.

Well, let me try this.....371,250 average weekly unemployment claims X 4 weeks = 1,485,000 August's new unemployment claims(give or take a day or two.)

OK, now we're getting somewhere....lessee here, 201,000 new jobs Divided by 1,485,000 = 0.135353535.

Yesirree Bob. All those folks can now fill 1/10th of a job!

Are we headed in the right direction or what?!?!?!?

But wait!

There's more!

Of the 201,000 jobs created last MONTH. 16,000 were in goods producing jobs

AND.....

185,000 were in the service producing jobs category.

NOW for the best part....

Are you ready for some really BIG news?!?!?!?

of those 201,000 new jobs......3,000 were in manufacturing!

Can you say Forward?

Claims dropped 12,000?

Seems like last weeks “It stayed even at 374,000” story turned out to really be “claims went up to 377,000”.

You are missing half of the equation. Initial claims are but half of the employment equation. The rest of it is hirings. Hundreds of thousands of people are hired and fired each week. The NET of the two gives you the non-farm payroll (NFP) numbers.

Since you mentioned the ADP report, here is the correlation between ADP and NFP:

I understand from whence you cometh. However, when one considers the 99 week extension for unemployment as well as the number of people who have given up, college grads living with parents, workers resigned to a take-a-sucky-job-just-to-be-doing-something; all of which are numbers that do not reflect in any report, the numbers which I use are pretty close to real world.

My wife works as an office manager for a construction firm and she comes home every day with sob stories of the people who come literally begging for work.

3000 new jobs in the manufacturing sector, and 16,000 new jobs in production, with 185,000 new jobs in the service sector; says it all!
