The Green Mile is chock full of symbolism. John Coffey, "J.C." heals people, watches the "picture show" with the projector lamp behind him like a halo, singing "I'm in Heaven...", leaves behind followers like the Tom Hanks character "Paul" who tells his story to everyone he meets, etc.

Strange coming from Stephen King, who is pretty upfront about his distaste for "Christians".
