Few protesters show in Tampa’s ‘Romneyville’

TAMPA, Fla. — Here in the middle of the biggest gathering of Republicans in the world, you’d think the Occupiers and anarchists and liberals would be everywhere.

But that hasn’t been the case. Maybe it’s the oppressive humidity, or threat of storms, or armies of police, but the protests have petered out on the streets of Tampa.

The one place where hundreds of protesters were supposed to gather was dubbed “Romneyville,” a vacant lot next to an Army Navy store. But just a few dozen were there when the Truth Squad stopped by, and they weren’t doing any protesting — just whipping up a healthy salad.

“This is really small, it’s one of the smallest I’ve ever been to,” said Romneyville leader John Penley, an Occupy veteran. “A lot of people just don’t think Mitt Romney’s gonna get elected, so why come down here and protest it?”

There have been a few Occupy marches through the streets of Ybor City — Tampa’s version of Bourbon Street — but police kept the protesters under control and were careful not to confront them.

There were lots of police on bicycles keeping a close eye on the Occupy camp, but they didn’t have much to do. One protester we talked to complained that the police weren’t watching them closely enough.

“Where you at? We’re spending millions of dollars,” one Romneyville citizen pleaded to police. “The least you could do was hang out with us in the rain.”

But when the rain came, police took cover under a nearby building. When the rain stopped, officers gave the citizens of Romneyville water and fruit to help them beat the heat.

So far, protesters said there are no plans for an “Obamaville” at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., next week.

“When the rain stopped, officers gave the citizens of Romneyville water and fruit to help them beat the heat.”

I understand this is a PR move but I still don’t like it.

There will be very few “Obama Occupy Wall Street” protesters at the Democrat National Convention next week being held in Charlotte, NC. There will be very little interset in the DNC next week. There will be very few Democrat and office holder candidates attending the DNC (They do not want to be seen anywhere near “Toxic” Obama!!! There will be very few TV viewers of the DNC. The DNC will be a najor embarassment and bust.

The Democrat Party should have broomed Obama when they had the chance to force him to resign or impeach him. Now....Obama will take a major portion of the Democrat Party down with him to a massive political defeat!!!

“A lot of people just don’t think Mitt Romney’s gonna get elected, so why come down here and protest it?”

This puts a big old smile on my face.

By November that will translate into "A lot of people just don’t think Mitt Romney’s gonna get elected, so why get out of bed and go out in the rain just to vote?

They gave them water and fruit to prevent having to take this scum to hospital emergency rooms for heat stress or heat stroke.

I don’t blame them for wanting to prevent having to deal with these maggots later on.

Wouldn’t it be funny if the Weiner Mobile showed up at the danicing vagina protest?

That first big rain ruined all their drugs so it wasn’t fun anymore.

You say that like it’s a bad thing. :-)

Guy hasn’t been following the polls and predictions. Maybe the Occupiers were too stoned to come down or didn’t want to leave their trust fund homes.

Not to be flippant, but to further the hypothesis in my piece on "Occupy Wall Street": Fruits Of Corrupt Education, might it not be possible that some of these deluded folks got lost on the way to Tampa & may be wondering around the countryside, trying to remember where they have been, where they were headed & why they started out, in the first place.

Just trying to be helpful.
