On the dystopia scale, Iran probably rates as a better place to live than North Korea or Zimbabwe, but not by much.
You may be right about the immediate conditions, but I think North Korea and Zimbabwe have better prospects for recovery. North Korea is like East Germany in 1989, but admittedly a lot sicker, but there was a path to wellness. Zimbabwe might become another garden variety African kleptocracy. Where can Iran go? What tradition or model do they have to follow?
