"Lefties are condemning the cops for firing at the gunman, despite the gunman getting ready to fire at them.

Lefties BS! The distance was less than 10 feet and they had prior warning by the person that pointed the guy out to them. These arrogant clymers suck at what they do and should be sued.

"They say the cops have no right to defend themselves when there are bystanders around."

HOW ABOUT THE PEOPLE'S RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES! They're there to serve and protect, not to shoot up the plainly visible background.

Myself in that situation; summer time would be a bit of a problem when light clothing forces me to a .380. Winter time I always have a .40. But at 10 feet, no matter the weapon, it WILL be a head shot. No sense concerning yourself with center of mass at that distance. At 10 feet a human head is equivalent to the outer ring at 25 yards.

Unfortunately, this had to be spray and pray, nobody could possible have had a front sight picture at that distance and not dropped the guy immediately.

“And you have been in how many gunfights?”

JuST one.
No bystanders hurt and we accounted for EVERY round fired.

And you sir?

"bystanders were not in the path of the bullets when the officers fired..... Many of the wounds to bystanders were “mostly in the lower extremity areas, such as legs and ankles, which would be consistent with some of the ricochet fragmented ballistics we found,” Mr. Browne said.

Mr. Browne is full of shit.

Appears the LEOs were following the shooter and did not have their weapons drawn until the shooter turned and pointed his gun at them.

Anyone else see this?

I’d like to see a better video than what’s here.

Panicked? well we Know the police were not, as per full article..the bullet fragments and ricochets after bullets struck nearby flowerpots[fragments]evident from ballistics and striking lower extremities.

Just how stupid are NYPD cops anyway? Shooting into a crowd?? No wonder people are having less and less confidence in LEO’s. Good God what morons!!! Reminds me of the scene in “It’s A Wonderful Life” where the cop started shooting down the street with people walking along the street. And of course Bloomie will say it was justified.

I don’t buy that. Training CAN teach them to think about where stray rounds are gonna go.

It’s probably a good thing they weren’t shooting 45’s - the folks who they shot would be a lot worse off.

Someone in the crowd must've been walking a dog.

Snarkiness aside, some cops are in dire need of training/range time, it would appear.

one or two shots a piece max....these cops were too hyped up. I know it is easy for me to say here in the comfort of my room, but I am seeing more and more stories of cops beating up guys or shooting people who were the wrong suspect like a former Marine here in so. Ca. recently. I am sorry, but some cops should not be in that profession.
Obviously this was a good shooting, but where is the good training and bullet conservation in a public area?

It appears the LEOs who following the shooter did not have their weapons drawn until the shooter turned and pointed his gun at them.

Just saw a better video and it appears to substantiate that.

Begs the question, if your following someone on foot who you were told just murdered someone, would you not have your weapon already in your hand?

It would seem if they had their weapons already in hand their shots would have likely been much better placed, as opposed to quickly drawing and firing.

This is what the video seems to depict.

I agree. At 10 feet, only 4 shots at the most should have been needed with each cop firing twice. I’m sure that some will say that 9mm weapons were the problem, but I’m fairly certain that they were hollow points or high impact bullets. Additionally, where did the 7 bullets hit? When did the fatal shot strike the agressor .... the 16th shot after spraying the crowd. The first 4 shots should have been to center mass and fatal. Additionally, the training that should have been required should have included active thinking and targeting rather than just qualifying by firing several hundred rounds at a paper target.

"No amount of training can prepare any police officers for this sort of thing."

What a silly statement. Preparing for "this sort of thing" is exactly WHY they train.

The Kenyan must go.
