ST CHARLES, Missouri (Reuters) - Missouri conservatives say they are rallying around U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin despite his controversial comments about rape because they are outraged that "establishment" Republican Party leaders tried to railroad him out of the race.
A backlash has set in here in Akin's suburban St. Louis congressional district, where supporters said the national party had no right to attempt to force out a duly-elected candidate.
Backers described Akin as the "real deal," a politician fiercely committed to their social causes such as opposition to abortion, and to the Tea Party drive to downsize government.

He’s such a winner the dims sent him money in the primary. They knew this goober was an easy mark and they were right. But I guess Sarah Palin is an establishment Republican and should just butt out.
At last ..
some real American patriots with guts...
The Resistance is standing up...
Maybe they can shame the lemmings on the Goddy Ship LolliGOP...
make that the Giddy Ship LolliGOP...
make that the Giddy Ship LolliGOP...
Let the people in Missouri handle this. They know the people more so that we all do. The Tv radio talkers and mostly the Gop-e have made this into a crazy disaster. I think this is a look into how Romney will do things as he did in Massachusetts. Also, the ones who are screaming the most; may end up with a hand picked Gop-e moderate that will beacon to the party machine. Unreal, that we have someone who is authentic (made an gaffe-apologized-ask for forgiveness even) and some are still making trouble. Palin misfiring over comments getting a third party set up and Coulter with her 9th grade paper idea. I hope the man hangs on and wins. It;s been disgusting to watch how the people in leadership are behaving. I don't care he made a gaffe. He's been punished enough for heavens sake. Crush that woman out of office, goal one.
Even if you agree with his principles, you shouldn’t vote for him because of the Idiot factor.
The dude meant non-statutory rape. If he couldn’t figure out that saying legitimate rape would imply illegitimate rape, then he is an idiot.

Huh?
The liberal press will now build Akin up. They KNOW ALREADY HE IS UNELECTABLE. The liberals WANT AKIN IN THE RACE.
Every conservative of note has said that Akin should step aside.
Akin is down 10 points.
McCaskill has more ‘dirt in the can’. She is desperate to keep him as a candidate and she was whining about pressure on Akin. Like Akin’s her little pet.
Akin raised $100,000 he says ... McCaskill has $10 million.
Akin is crispy toast. So who are these lemmings willing to throw their lot in with Akin, instead of talking sense to him and get him to do the right thing and let Brunner or Steelman run this race?
Like Palin hasn’t supported Rino’s before-McCain come to mind? How about Hatch?
Amen!
“The Tv radio talkers and mostly the Gop-e have made this into a crazy disaster”
Nope. Akin himself has made it into a crazy disaster. He made the statement, he then made a whiff of an apology, then a no-show on CNN, then he gave a horrible Hannity interview. Then he’s babbling against his own party rather than making sense. He gets worse and worse.
If he wasnt so selfish about staying in a race he would lose, we would be in a position to win this. Instead, you are seeing a slowmotion train-wreck, and Akin has just enough ‘true beleivers’ to run a credible campaign that will lose by 10 points. Ras poll has him down by 10 points. He will be outspent and he will lose the indep female vote. Game over.
“Crush that woman out of office, goal one.”
Iagree. but step one is to get a better candidate than Akin. He will lose. This is why Palin was RIGHT - she picked a better candidate to endorse! Steelman would be cruising to victory right now. Oh well ... there is still time for Akin to wake up, step aside and let a better conservative WIN for a change.
The news media and the DNC (one and the same) will stoke this fire for all it’s worth. Todd Akin is no more than a garden variety politician. He is a tool that exists to be bought and sold. So there should be no regret in discarding him.
He meant violent rape.
This race is far from over, 3 months away from election day.
Palin picks winners. she has picked some very strong conservatives, and they have been solid candidates. She hasnt endorsed many ‘flake’ candidates.
Akin was a dud ... and she didnt pick him.
She went for Steelman, who came in 3rd.
Holy cr*p, are you sure?.. that makes his comment even worse, because then he is implying that rape without violence aint rape... Hell hath no fury like women told ignorant babble about rape by a guy.
I’m inclined to agree with you about letting Missouri handle this. I am giving Sarah a rare perplexed look, but am inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt because she had already endorsed another candidate, and could be expected to be less impressed with Akin for other reasons.
Be that as it may, the man has decided to stay in the race, I assume that means he still thinks he can win it, and if the Conservatives of that state are indeed rallying to his defense, the best thing we can do is all shut up and hope the issue fades.
Look at the major gaffes that Obama spouted with just recently. He made a terrible mistake while trying to capitalize on this incident by referring to Akins as a Senator — and in the same meeting referred to the Navy’s top SEAL as a general.
We need to get back on the offensive here, people!
“She has picked some real losers as well.
She went for Steelman, who came in 3rd.””
Steelman is smelling like a rose right about now. And my point is had voters listened Palin, we’d be in better shape there. She has good judgment.
Voters should have picked Brunner or Steelman instead of Akin.
there is still time to fix the mess in Mo, Akin to withdraw and Steelman to take his place.
