Chicken was in high demand Thursday in the Bay Area, as San Jose's first Chick-fil-A restaurant celebrated its grand opening.
Located on the corner of First Street and Headquarters Drive, the store marks the fast food chain's first stand-alone restaurant in the Silicon Valley. Before this one, the closest Chick-fil-A was in Fairfield, and many years ago there was a location in the Sunnyvale Town Center shopping center. The chain intends to open another Bay Area franchise in Walnut Creek in October.
Not even a sprinkle of protesters, rallying against Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy's recent anti-gay marriage statements, could darken the mood for the long lines of patrons eagerly awaiting their chicken sandwiches and waffle fries.
Throughout the day, a man dressed up as a cow wearing a shirt emblazoned with Chick-fil-A's advertising slogan, "Eat Mor Chikin," posed for pictures as he greeted customers at the door, and Chick-fil-A workers handed out miniature stuffed cows as compensation for waiting in the long lines.

My office is less than a mile from the new CFA. At a meeting this afternoon, a guy mentioned “Let’s go to CFA” and a woman responded “Let’s not go there.” Didn’t take a genius to figure out where they were on the political spectrum. Luckily, that was the end of discussion. We keep our politics out of work (unlike other places I’ve worked).
Lucky dog. Wish I were there but, I was insurer for a torn rotation cuff.
And just in time the pain block they administered wore off about 3 hours ago.
Yay! I’m gonna try to get there in two weeks.
But CFA chix muggets & breakfast sammich? I'M A FAN!!!

The pain block wore off this afternoon and “Ho Boy!”
Ice packs and all the pills they gave me. In safe dosage of course.
I should be able to clean up by Tuesday.
Can’t wait for some Chick Fil A.
It was late in the day, way past lunch. We’ll be going soon. Can’t wait to try it.
