There is talk of a compromise candidate rising if Akin drops out, one who didn’t run in the primary.

Which would be a slap in the face of those who spent time, money and sweat to run in the primary. If the runner up isn't first to be picked, they deserve to lose, as they will, big time.

The thing is that the runner-up, John Brunner, has his own problems, including a tax issue. In addition, Todd Akin is known to dislike Brunner and might stay in the race if he thinks that Brunner will be chosen if Akin withdraws.
