Since I live in Missouri I feel free to correct you. Missouri is a 'swing' state. McCain/Palin won by a hair.
The majority of the population of the state reside in the KCmetro and St. Louismetro areas. They are ruled by liberals. IF Akin stays on the ballot the choice will be him or Claire.... Third party candidates usually do not have much of an impact.
What Akin needs to 'win' are the ever wavering sensitive so called independents. They NEVER like to be ridiculed and they will in droves vote for the candidate that appears to be the JonStewart's media choice.... And then along comes Akin pumping life into the liberals sacred cow 'women's right to choose' and now who do you think those sensitive so call independents are going to vote for.... most especially the 'women'. Akin appears to be satisfied with only becoming a martyr, NOT actually winning so he can literally do something.

Very interesting: I used to live in Oregon, and if you wanted the state, whether candidacy-wise or most (not all) referenda, you pretty much just had to win the Portland Metro area and Multnomah County. You get that locked up in sufficient numbers, and you pretty much win the whole ball of wax.
And you reveal what the attack on Akin is ALL about. You don't want the Republican party to be a pro-life party. You'd rather "win" by marching down a trail of dead, bloody, unborn baby body parts. Well, real conservatives are fed up with that attitude. We want candidates who unashamedly speak up for pro-life, anti-abortion values and implement them while in office. There are some issues where there is no room for compromise. So, like the GOP elites, you either have a screwed-up, immoral value system, or you're just a coward who won't fight for what's right if you perceive any risk to it at all.
Bottom line, the idea of becoming the "John Stewart" party is an abhorrent, disgusting one. We should use our bully pulpit to educate and inform people of the changes this country really needs, not to water ourselves down to the lowest common denominator.
In reference to my earlier post to you, I don’t know Missouri’s population dynamics, but in Oregon, 57% of the state’s total population lives in the Portland Metro Area. That’s what explains its disproportional weight, electorally speaking.
And then along comes Akin pumping life into the liberals sacred cow 'women's right to choose' and now who do you think those sensitive so call independents are going to vote for....What is your opinion? Do you think a woman should have the right to end the life of her child if conceived during the course of a rape? And if you do, what is your stance on abortion in general?

I am also a Missouri resident and voter. However, I disagree with your assesment of the importance of “Independent” voters...as you describe them.
This issue is still in turmoil but will settle down. When it does, Republicans and Independents (which really dislike McRascal) will go for Akin. Theo is right. Mike Huckabee is REALLY right.
God Bless Mike Huckabee.
So then lets become the party that kills babies with glee to satisfy those independents, so they wont vote dem.

Jes’ wonderin’, if it ain’t confidential information, but...
.... come November, who will YOU be voting for?
