Public pressure mounting on San Jose police chief

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- "The citizens out here are looking for them to come up with a solution and people don't want to panic. People want to know and have confidence in the city leaders," San Jose resident Michelle Bertolone told ABC7 News Wednesday. Residents are asking for help following a murder in a grocery store Tuesday night. It was the city's seventh killing in just eight days.

The pressure is mounting on San Jose's police chief to ask for outside help to deal with the city's unprecedented surge in violence. There have been 32 homicides in San Jose so far this year compared to 27 at this same time a year ago. Last year, 2011 ended with a total of 39 homicides. Even the police chief is referring to the last several days as a "bloody week" in San Jose and the city is on a pace to have more homicides this year than any time in the past 15 years.

Rudie Golart has shopped at one particular East San Jose Safeway for 52 years. The fatal stabbing that happened inside the store Tuesday night has her furious about the city's skyrocketing violence. "We're steady customers here. We shouldn't have to be shaking in our boots just to come and get groceries," she told ABC7 News. The anger there is undeniable and so too is the fear. "It could be your child or my child next. We need some help from city hall," Golart said.

San Jose's 32 homicides throughout the city this year equal five more than at this time last year and 12 more than all of 2010. Assembly member Nora Campos is urging the police chief to ask the CHP for help.

Interesting note: “...a crime surge in the first six months of 2012, highlighted by double-digit spikes in burglaries, robberies, rapes, stolen cars and other thefts over last year.”

However, on Aug 13, they noted that homicides had been *down*, but spiked in the following week or so, with seven killed and five wounded.

Meaning I guess that anyone so inclined, is at the mercy of the SJ police for “permission” to be so inclined?

Do I have that correct?

San Jose Chief and police, corrupt, overpaid and incompetent, a perfect compliment to the entitled, illegal, banger, leftist protected classes.

Yep,..."may issue".

Operationally, anyone well politically connected with the left can get a permit within a day by just asking, but any ordinary law abiding citizen cannot under any circumstances.

This is policy in the nine Bay Area counties, rural California counties are still reasonable, the farther from the cities the better.

San Jose is in the process of recruiting new officers but right now, the Police Officers Association says its 1,055 sworn officers are simply not enough to serve a city of nearly 1 million people. "We're one of the lowest staffed major cities in the United States of America and we're now seeing the resulting crime wave," said POA Vice President John Robb.

Too bad the public employee unions are sucking up all the taxpayer cash paying bennies & pensions for their members, otherwise maybe we could afford more cops.

You don’t need permission to call 911, and you should not need permission to use 1911 instead.

Oh - it could be worse - you could live in Fremont like I do! Our police chief stopped his department from responding to home alarms about 5 or 6 years ago. Our residential burglary rate has blossomed! Yet he jets around the state espousing what a great idea it was to save money!

San Jose is like most other towns, and suffering at the hands of their unions and the city fathers! It’s both a failure of leadership AND a failure due to public unions.

Yeah, sit and whimper waiting for the police to protect you.... Try to get a CCW permit in san jose. maybe they should start solving the problem there. throw the sheriff out of office and any public official or leo that doesn't believe people have a right to defend themselves and their families.

Don’t we all just LUUUUV may issue.

The literal translation being if you are connected, we just may. Otherwise forget it.

Somehow, beaches, palm trees, reasonable weather, and Disneyland just don’t make up for the absolute idiocy of those running the state of CA.

Too bad the US Navy couldn’t just take over and bring sanity back.

I also live in the occupied SF Bay Area, and we fired all our police revenue officers, closed the police department, and contracted with the county sheriff. Little difference.

The US Navy has been effectively run out of San Francisco Bay by the San Francisco Communists, but they still honor the undeserving city every Fleet Week.

How’d you like to be Chief of Police in a Sanctuary City and asked to keep that All-American City safe?

Gang Wars HaPPen .. so does random violence and if ya pump enough gang members into a city, ‘random’ happens a lot more oft..

...”but they still honor the undeserving city every Fleet Week”.

Far cry from the “Frisco” of WWII.

Yea, I know they hate that monicker.

That works both ways, most hate what “Frisco” has become.

Dunno anything about the current guy, but for years the police chief was Joseph McNamara, who was virulently anti-self-defense.
