Coburn: The Truth About Ryan and His Critics
WSJ ^ | 8-23-12 | tom coburn

The more voters learn about Congressman Paul Ryan's leadership style and his thoughtful and creative approach to solving problems, the more they will decide that the Romney-Ryan ticket looks presidential and electable. That's why there has been a coordinated effort in recent days to ramp up not just the "Mediscare" rhetoric against Mr. Ryan, but to depict him as a partisan ideologue who was instrumental in derailing a grand bargain on the deficit. This line of attack is cynical and, most of all, false.

First, Paul Ryan didn't force President Obama to abandon the budget recommendations of his own 2010 deficit commission, known as Bowles-Simpson. Mr. Obama's decision to punt on deficit reduction—and then to ridicule Mr. Ryan's plan to address the deficit—offended and disappointed Republicans and Democrats alike.

"The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents – #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic." - Barack Obama, July 3, 2008

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) quoted Thomas Jefferson saying, "I place economy among the first and most important government virtues and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared," when voting against raising the debt ceiling in 2006.

On March 16th of 2006, Reid took the Senate floor and delivered a speech on how raising the debt ceiling was part of an "unprecedented and dangerous borrowing spree."

The Romney & Ryan campaign should be plastering TV with that video of former Clinton Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles praising Paul Ryan about how his budget proposal was "just like him, honest and straightforward" (paraphrased), and some simple easy to understand graphics showing how 0bama has been spending taxpayer money like a teenager in a whorehouse with an 'American Excess Card', and don't forget what gasoline was selling for in January 2009 and what it's selling for today.

And it wouldn't hurt to include a zinger about "it's going to be really difficult for 0bama if he IS re-elected, he will be inheriting another bad economy, but this time he'll have to blame himself."

While Tom Coburn is right about Paul Ryan,i resent the fact that Coburn is using a spate of recent articles as a “Smokescreen”,to pretend he’s a Conservative again. Coburn recently donated to (D) Joe Manchin’s campaign. He also has said of Obama in the Past,”I love the guy”. Most egregiously,Coburn’s single vote, could have defeated the stalinist,’Food Safety and Modernization Act’,during the 2010 lameduck session. Yet,instead of voting against the Bill,Coburn decided to pass it by,’Unanimous Consent’, late on a Sunday night, five days before Christmas 2010. Now thanks to Coburn,Obama in theory, has total control over our food supply, including Home garden’s. A key tenent of marxism, denial of food and manufactured famines,in order to control the population. Coburn is a lefty Traitor!
