Jo Ann Emerson Floated as Akin Replacement
NRO ^ | Katrina Trinko | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 08/22/2012 10:44:10 AM PDT by Da Bilge Troll

Another Missouri Republican consultant suggests that Representative Jo Ann Emerson, the Republican who has represented Missouri’s eighth district since 1996, could be a top contender to replace Todd Akin if he quits. Her name has been making the rounds among party insiders, thanks in part to the fact that she’s currently the longest-serving House member in Missouri. Missouri GOP executive director Lloyd Smith used to be her chief-of-staff.

UPDATE: A colleague points out that Emerson is a member of the moderate-leaning Republican Main Street partnership, and generally less rightward than the three — Akin, Sarah Steelman, and John Brunner — who ran in the primary. Emerson’s American Conservative Union ranking for 2011 was 56, and for 2010 88; Akin’s ratings, in contrast, were 91.67 and 100 in those years respectively.

Not sure if you’re paying attention but that’s exactly what Akin already did with his comments.

Oh, for heaven's sake. Nothing like a little panic to make your day complete.

“The election is “in a few weeks”!”

We have over 8 weeks to go yet. McCaskill is in deep trouble here, it won’t take much of a campaign to beat her. That is why Akin is taking this so hard, the seat was his for the taking and he blew it. when you are a career politician that is hard to accept, but he eventually will.

“We have a conservative that made a blunder..( 0kay a big one!) but we play right into the hand of the media and liberals!!! Shame on us!!!”

So Obama gets a pass on “You didn’t build that”, because it was miss interpreted?

We have to play fair here.

"MO has a conservative running who stumbled over his words....and they are willing to toss him aside for a RINO?"

It seems the powers that be in the GOP want the nominee to represent them to override the choice the Missouri Republicans made as their representative. Pro-life will experience a Sister Souljah moment.

Obama didn't "make" a blunder....Obama IS a blunder. A lot of difference.

“It seems the powers that be in the GOP want the nominee to represent them to override the choice the Missouri Republicans made as their representative”

You have to remember almost 2/3rds of the Republican voters voted for someone other than Akin.

I just want to point out the obvious here.

Why is it that one asinine comment from a giy with a high-90s conservative ranking MUST!!! be tossed overboard while there’s still time and attacked by all these ‘conservative’ freepers, but the guy in the presidential slot with a lifetime of even more stupid statements and actual legislative actions must be rallied around because the primaries are over and there is no time left?

I want to see that addressed honestly before all the ‘Toss him’ crew gets too wound up.

Interesting info flying on Twitter about Ann Wagner replacing Akin.

“Obama didn’t “make” a blunder....Obama IS a blunder. A lot of difference.”

Have you watched the video of Akin’s remarks? They were not miss spoken nor misinterpreted, it is what he believed about abortion and rape. It wasn’t a forced admission, he willingly volunteered the info. He wasn’t caught off guard, it was a window into his view of rape.

So if Akin’s was a misquote or misspoken or misinterpreted the same can be said of Obama.

I read the law the other night & do not recall anything about appointments. Losing candidates simply can not run 3rd party or write in campaigns for an election they lost.

Emerson is married to Ron Gladney, attorney for the SEIU & it is thought the unions help prop up her votes. In 2010 Electrical Workers Local 1 encourage members to vote for Emerson & 3 others.

http://bobmccarty.com/tag/ron-gladney/

If she is chosen & accepts it will not sit well with many in District 8. We want her gone!

“Why is it that one asinine comment-MUST!!! be tossed overboard”

It wasn’t just an asinine mistake, it was a telling reflection of his core belief concerning rape.

“the MSM blew this all out of proportion ...

The national RINOcracy had a little more than a wink and a nod to do with it....and this latest Emerson nonsense is proof.

There is no certainty that Emmerson will be chosen there are plenty of names being thrown out there.

I do not doubt that. And I agree it was hella stupid. But the other guy’s core beliefs and repeated statements, recent and past, are even crazier and the current dogma says he must be supported, do or die. Those two things are polar opposites.

That is not remotely consistent. If Romney is good enough to keep, then logically, so is this idiot.

You are correct, he needed to withdraw yesterday to allow the MO Republican Committee to appoint a replacement. Now the courts would have to be involved, and Brunner or Steelman would have to appointed, they could not be a write in candidate. See Laws Regarding Write-In Candidates in Missouri

Just an addition to my last post. His mistaken and asinine ‘belief’ results in what exactly when the rubber hits the road? Nothing. Zero effect on anything. His belief in how reproduction works, while wrong, results in nothing but his embarassment. Not one thing changes otherwise, legaly, legislatively or anything. No woman suffers any harm because of it. He can force it on no one.

The other guy’s ‘belief’ that homosexual adoption is A OK HAS resulted resulted in raped children. If not in Mass, then elsewhere. I’ve read the articles on FR. That mindset DOES result in legal problems and raped kids.

I do not see the sense in tossing a man who is otherwise rock solid on the issues. ESPECIALLY considering the damage another RINO replacement will do.

“His mistaken and asinine ‘belief’ results in what exactly when the rubber hits the road? Nothing. Zero “

But as a woman how can you reconcile the fact that he stated that legitimate rape doesn’t result in pregnancy or only very rarely.
He is saying that if you say you were raped and got pregnant then you weren’t really raped but in effect you wanted it and enjoyed it but are now claiming rape for some other reason.

Indefensible on any grounds.
