This storm doesn’t look too serious. But enough to call off the RNC for evacuation efforts. The mayor was on the local news saying that safety trumps politics. I will be watching this in the days to come. Today? Im a minor league prepper heading to the store.

Good idea to head to the store.

The comments here amaze me. Is the only impact of a hurricane political?

Yes, it may go over land and weaken before it hits Tampa. The current path has the northeast (bad) quadrant going over Miami (where I live).

There is no such thing as a “minor” hurricane. Having lived through Andrew in South Dade, Irene, Katrina, Rita, Wilma ... I would not really relish a “minor” one like Wilma messing up my house and car (again).

Like you. I am off to the store (replenish batteries, etc), freezing jugs of water, making sure my chain saw works ...

A lot of people here are recent arrivals. They have no idea of a storm like Andrew. (It was not until a day or so before arrival that it was taken seriously).

I know that most of my friends and colleagues who work at the Hurricane Center are taking the necessary precautions (”just in case”). They know better than most how “iffy” those forecasts are.
