Republican Representative Todd Akin resisted pressure to quit the U.S. Senate race in Missouri on Tuesday, releasing a new ad apologizing for his inflammatory remarks about rape that have reinserted controversial abortion politics into the U.S. presidential campaign.
In an ad released online, Mr. Akin again apologized for his comments Sunday, when he claimed in a television interview that women could not get pregnant from “legitimate rape,” even as senior Republicans condemned his remarks and called for him to step aside in the race.
“Rape is an evil act. I used the wrong words in the wrong way, and for that I apologize,” Mr. Akin said in the spot.
“The fact is, rape can lead to pregnancy. The truth is, rape has many victims. The mistake I made was in the words I said, not in the heart I hold. I ask for your forgiveness,” he added. Mr. Akin, noting that he is the father of two daughters, also said he wanted “tough justice” for rapists and expressed compassion for victims.

You can't be real! Rather than face Akin's ignorance and egotism, you want to pretend this is a grand conspiracy to "get" a pro-lifer. None-sense.
If you care about pro-life issues, you must realize Akin's done immeasurable damage to the pro-life cause with his ignorant comments. Thanks to him, those values will have one less voice from Missouri because McCaskill's about the be reelected.
Ask yourself this: was Akin supported by the party and the CrossRoad's PAC before his comments? Yes. Did he hold pro-life views before those comments? Yes. There you go. End of story.
The issues Akin claims to value are more important than he is, the Republicans asking him to get out understand that but, sadly, Akin does not.

His comments weren't ignorant, just awkward. If you shut him down on pro-life matters, it really doesn't matter if he is pro-life or not. I'm afraid that's happening with Paul. Saving kids is something folks have to TALK about; ignoring the holocaust on children (and their mothers; keep in mind, they are damaged by abortion) bears no fruit.

Then why did McCaskill spend 1.5 million to engineer him as her opponent. And has made statements he should stay in? The Dems want him rather than another pro lifer in because they know Akin can beat himself.McCaskill’s biggest weapon in this campaign is her opponent’s mouth. McCaskill can just take a vacation until November and pray Akin does not get laryngitis.
Let us hope very dearly that he can pull it off. Republicans don’t usually get 2nd chances. But it appears that we have no choice but to hope that he can convince the people of the State and of theses united States indirectly that he never meant to say what was heard.
Agree. Everyone knew what he meant, no one really thought he believed any rape was 'legitimate' so why are we all playing this game?
