Alaska seems like a logistical nightmare, and is still in the USA. Not to mention a mighty frigid climate.

The best docs and practices will set up clinics offshore in the Caribbean, a short plane trip from Fla.

They will cater to the wealthy and the (most desperate) middle class seeking better medicine than Baraqqicare. No insurance accepted, obviously.

This will be a booming business, and I’d advise young people to keep their eyes open for opportunities it will provide.

I've heard this suggested. It's not as simple as you might think>

As I have attempted to say on FR for years--the doctor is the cheapest part of medical care. And that doctor would be very inexpensive if clinical care was a cash transation--maybe even less than your next emergency call to your plumber if the market was allowed to work.

I don't know what a gall bladder removal costs these days, but the surgeon's fee is a small percentage of the total if you take out the payment to all the other personnel and all the other usage fees of the infrastructure. Look at your bill.

What is not in your equation is a state of the art hospital facility for your offshore docs to work in--THAT's where the big expense is.

The irony is, being wealthy can't buy you the best health care if you take a wrecking ball to the infrastructure! Now, you can move to Tel Aviv and buy a condo next to their hospitals. That will get you the best in medical care. Just don't travel to the third world or nifty places like the Riviera.

Keep in mind that your need for medical care generally involves a close-by facility an emergency room. You may have elective surgery, like brain surgery at Duke University like Ted Kennedy did, but a lot of life saving medicine needs that ER.

I'm looking forward to rich liberals figuring this out...
