That video does not make the officers look very good. There did not look to be a threat that warranted that reaction. A taser was surely indicated, or why did they not use the dog as they had threatened? Shooting has come to be the first alternative now. He was likely shot because he did not obey commands, regardless of any perceived danger. When an officer knows that all he has to do to clear himself of a uniformed killing is to say, “I felt threatened,” he is much more likely to shoot a suspect or a perp just because it is easier than other methods.

Would you bet your life on the effectiveness of a taser? That is the question here. Let me get 15 feet away from you with a knife, get into a “karate stance” as one witness says on the tape, and see if you can put me down, not just hit me, but totally stop me, before I stab you in the heart and kill you. In that situation, really, you would risk using a taser?
