I wish everyone would look this up for this state and start responding to these voter id objections as being stupid: YOU NEED AN ID TO REGISTER TO VOTE, at least, in Texas. Its IMPOSSIBLE for someone to not be able to show an ID to vote if they are registered, since they’ve ALREADY shown one to register.

This business of talking about where an ID is needed is all well and good, but the real response, as shown here, shows the absolute STUPIDITY of arguing this will suppress ANY voter turnout.

So, please, look up your state’s statute on voter registration requirements and post it here.

Illinois requires a photo ID to register for PRIMARY elections but not so for GENEARL elections

Rules for registering to vote:

Primary election

To participate in a primary election in the state of Illinois, eligible voters must be registered to vote. To register to vote in a primary election in Illinois, each person must be able to present two forms of identification with at least one form including a photo of the voter. You do not have to register with a political party or claim membership to a political party to vote in Illinois primary elections, simply request the ballot of the party for which you wish to cast a ballot. You can choose a different party ballot in each primary, but only one party ballot per primary election

General Election Registration

What forms of identification may be needed when I register to vote?
Two forms of identification with at least one showing your current residence address is needed when you register in-person. If you register by mail sufficient proof of identity is required by submission of your driver’s license number or State identification card number. If you don’t have either of those, verification by the last 4 digits of the your social security number, a copy of a current and valid photo identification, or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document that shows your name and address will be required. A person may also demonstrate sufficient proof of identity by submission of a photo identification issued by a college or university accompanied by either a copy of the applicant’s contract or lease for a residence or any postmarked mail delivered to the applicant at his or her current residence address.
