As the original owners have slowly gone in debt in the Michigan economy, he's been there to save them at rock bottom prices only to sell to the state at a premium. The land all abuts state land already and its ready to be annexed as he makes his deals with the state. He has another thousand acre tract to the north that butts up against another state recreation area.
I did some digging in the county GIS records and found that the tax assessments on some of these parcels have done some odd things in recent years. One tiny parcel of old railroad bed is only a couple hundred yards long and maybe 25 yards wide. in 2010 it was assessed at $16,800 but the assessment for this year values it at $2,600
