If tax time weren't painful enough, some Minnesotans are now victims of tax identity fraud -- and the number of scams is exploding nationwide.
In Brooklyn Park, Jason Bennett and his wife found out the hard way--when they went to file their return they found out someone had already done it for them.
The Bennetts say they're owed about a $2,400 dollar tax refund this year. "It was money that we were planning on to pay some bills," Jason explains...
...Jason went to the IRS website and filled out an affidavit (Form 14039) to try to fix the situation. Then his wife did some detective work and found that someone (supposedly) named Regina Jackson at a (supposed) Miami address was granted a refund of nearly $4,700, using Jason's social security number....

Will they be paying my bill?
Serial identity thieves should get the death penalty. Seriously.
I wondered something similar. What if someone steals your identity and gets a refund when you actually should pay in? You did not file the false return and the IRS accepted it without question, so would they even notice it and would they give you a year to pay them?
Also, I hope this couple charges the IRS the same penalties and interest that the IRS would have charged them.

Obama told them to take their “fair share”..or something like that ;-)
Shouldn’t Romney be running with this? He’s shown some spark, but this stuff is dynamite. “Obama is stealing your tax returns.” Well, he is.
In case you haven't noticed... Romney DOESN'T run with anything. He's pretty inept, just as he was during the debates.
America is in DEEP TROUBLE, truly.
The IRS and our government demanding our adoration doesn’t give a good goddamn.
Don’t you need a w2 that matches the SS# to file?
Lots of people file their tax returns on January 1. Anyone can buy blank W-2’s, fill them in and attach copies to their returns. W-2’s from employers aren’t available thru SSA until at least mid-February, if then. In the meantime, IRS has mailed or direct deposited millions of dollars of refunds. It’s to “help the people who really need the money” according to the benevolent IRS. Audits are few and far between unless you have done something to rile the White House.
My experience with w-2s. Some larger employers do not send them out until the end of January, although my current employer sends it out shortly after he receives them, so I get that by the middle of January.
1099s almost never arrive before the middle of Feb. and some take until mid March to arrive.
...”In case you haven’t noticed... Romney DOESN’T run with anything”...
You are right..I have begun to wonder whose side he is on. When a man is unjustly accused of murder and much of the country agrees that a great wrong has been done to him, would you not think he would respond to that with some kind of passion?!! Conservatives are starved for someone to channel the passion and outrage which exists our here..Evidently, those who had the guts to do it did not win. I use myself as an example of what is going to happen as a result of Romney’s soft responses to this stuff. The money will dry up. I cannot contribute big but I will not send anymore unless I see a dramatic change because without that, it is hopeless.
“Then his wife did some detective work and found that someone (supposedly) named Regina Jackson.........”
I need not read any further. The name “Regina Jackson” tells the rest of the story./s

This is what dems do between fraudulent elections.
There is the school of thought that when your enemy is destroying himself, get out of the way and let him. Obama is tsking a pounding over the "cancer" ad, no need for Romney to jump in and distract from that.
IMO there is no way that the IRS can send out any refunds before March 1 with any amount of credibility because all of the W-2 and 1099 information is not available for cross-checking. I would suspect that there are insufficient programs in place in order to validate information sent in on returns, particularly since we are dealing with the government, even if the processing date were delayed.
Years ago this probably wasn’t a problem because the level of identity theft, forgery, etc. wasn’t as much of an issue, particularly when people were dealing with IRS.
There is an old saying that “Haste makes waste”. The entire tax system and IRS needs to be replaced because this is only going to get worse.
Well according to Harry Reid paying your taxes is voluntary anyways, so I guess none of this really matters.
