Priorities USA Action(WASHINGTON) -- Lanny Davis, a former top adviser to President Bill Clinton, today issued a scathing rebuke to a controversial new Democratic super PAC ad that ties Mitt Romney to a woman’s death from cancer.
“I’m pretty sad for our country that we have presidential candidates engaging in sophomoric — and that’s a compliment — sophomoric name calling,” Davis said in an interview on WMAL radio in Washington.
Davis says both Romney and Obama, and their supporters, have sponsored ads “that make us all want to take a shower.” But when it comes to the cancer ad, he said the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action has gone too far.
“Bill Burton needs to go back to ethics school,” Davis said of the group’s senior strategist, who is a former Obama White House spokesman. “He knows perfectly well that the ad is misleading and disgusting and he needs to apologize for it.”
The former Clinton aide, however, says Romney and his supporters “dumped garbage” into Iowa. Davis is particularly critical of a Romney TV ad that features Obama out-of-context, citing a quote from the 2008 campaign in which he referred to John McCain’s view of the economy.
“This is disgusting on both sides,” he said.
Davis said the president shouldn’t allow his supporters to suggest that Romney is in any way to blame for the woman’s death.
“President Obama owes it to the American people to repudiate this ad,” he said.
Obama campaign officials have refused to disavow the ad, claiming independence from the outside group and no knowledge of the woman’s story. Priorities USA strategists insist the ad is factually correct and will air as scheduled later this week.

Lanny Davis is usually an *ss but sometimes surprises me.
I had a run in with him on a talk radio show during the Clinton years regarding Juanita Broaddrick. I asked him if Juanita was his wife or daughter or sister or mother, then would it matter if Clinton raped her? He went absolutely crazy screaming at me on the air.
The Hillary supporters will defeat Obama.

This is real clever by the way. Now Romney cannot point out any of the outrageous things Obama truly is guilty of without being lumped into the same basket as Obama's lies.

The ONLY reason he is critical of the Obama ad is because all the old Clinton haacks are still pissed the way Obams treated Hillary...
If Hillary was the POTUS and this same ad was running...Lanny would be crickets
Most of the time I can't figure out what jabber that skidplate says, so I'd be hard pressed to put it in context.
Yet if you go to the official Obama campaign website you find the following smoking gun:

Isn't Obama partially to blame for these deaths/breakdowns because of his rabid pro-abort stance?
Something is afoot here. Obama's echo chamber has sprung a leak or the "Clinton Crowd" is defecting. CNN was hitting Obama's superpac pretty hard over this. Now Lanny Davis? I imagine Hillary or Bill green-lighted this.
The Clinton's had enough juice to get Hillary the gig at State, but not enough for her to have the usual power that goes with the office. Obama had his own envoys that reported to him, so Hill was just a figurehead. Probably OK by her. She just wanted a resume entry.
So Obama put the Cow in the pasture where she belonged.
I think the score-settling goes back to the campaign. That still rankles.
Obama is a liar. Oh, he’s also a mass murderer too in case anybody cares.

Lanny Davis is simply trying to spread the filth around in attempt to clean up Obama. Soon, Obama will say something consistent with what Davis has already laid the groundwork for.
In other words, Obama stepped in it, and Davis is trying to help Obama wash off his boot.
