That's your assumption. I say they'd have happened anyway or do you think schizophrenic Jared Loughner would've somehow been deterred? There was someone armed on scene and he didn't take a shot. No rational person is going to open fire in a darkened theater full of smoke and a panicked crowd in hopes of hitting an armoured gunman.
Nice try but both sides are ridiculously utopian-minded. The Left falsely believes guns can be entirely controlled, the Right falsely believes arming everyone is a certain deterrent to lunatics.
I AGREE with you, right to carry would not NECESSARILY have stopped that attack, and even having armed persons is no guarantee. But I DO think that if a few of those types started getting popped at the beginning of their sprees it would have a chilling effect on the whole spree killing genre.

Just as getting mobbed and stomped by airline passengers has had a chilling effect on hijacking.
Hanging a few of them upside down on meathooks from lampposts would have a very chilling effect.
What part of "shall not be infringed" is so hard to understand?
If you meant to suggest there was an armed individual in the theatre in Colorado, I hadn't read that. But it's worth pointing out that a concealed carry permit doesn't equate with a law enforcement responsibility. I don't disagree with your suggestion that some on the right exaggerate the case. Were I in that theatre, armed, would my priority be getting my family out safely (us on the right present that as the reason for concealed carry), or to engage the killer. Perhaps at risk to loved ones.
I don't know what I'd do.
I do know that no one in that theatre would be at greater risk were I or another law abiding citizen (they get the permits) armed. And yes, maybe things would have ended differently.
