Buzz Feed ^ | Aug 2, 2012 2:16pm EDT | Andrew Kaczynski

Mitt Romney has been mocked for suggesting he could have got an “E” letter grade. But according to a copy of his freshman year report card he could in fact have gotten an “E” letter grade.

E grades were still given out when I was in school in the 90s.

In fact I actually got one in 9th grade Earth Science one marking period. I was so embarrassed that I vowed never again to slack off like that.

That grade went from an E to A in 6 weeks.

I miss the days when students got real report cards in school and were criticized for just doing enough to get by and not working to their full potential. I'm sure Mitt got the much needed kick in the butt and as a result, he's done quite well for himself. A self-made quarter billion dollar fortune and on his way to the U.S. presidency.

These days, everybody gets a trophy and mediocrity is not only tolerated but is the norm.

Btw who would “mock” that it was a possibility?

It’s part of the common grading scale throughout Michigan.

In Romney's case, a fair report card might do him more good than harm. Sort of a, I'll show my bruises, let's see yours, kinda thing.

I was a student in the Detroit system, with an A-E grading scale. The first time I heard someone say their grading scale was A B C D F, I thought that was nonsensical, as if they didn’t know the alphabet! I realize F could stand for fail, but the other letters grades are not alliterative, so why should the “F” be?

This is hardly "leaked information". In interviews with AP more than four years ago, when asked what were his best and worst grades at school, Gov. Romney responded, "A to F. Fortunately, I got more A's than F's".

Let the nation see your academic records, Obama. How do they stack up to Romney's record of achievement in college?

Governor Romney received his B.A., with Highest Honors, from Brigham Young University in 1971. Romney was BYU graduating class valedictorian with a 3.97 GPA.

In 1975, he was awarded an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar, and a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Harvard Law School. The top academic honor at Harvard Business School is the Baker Scholar designation (High Distinction), given to the top 5% of the graduating MBA class.

Mitt Romney studied under a dual MBA/JD degree program at Harvard and graduated with honors in just four years with both degrees. The MBA degree and JD degree program at Harvard normally require two and three years, respectively. Out of Mitt Romney's 800 business school classmates and 550 law school classmates, only 15 earned degrees through the dual program.

If the leftist jackals want to start an argument over who is the more intelligent of the two men, they will fail miserably.

We used to get E’s back in the sixties. I remember one guy saying he got an “Old McDonald”. Of course ‘I’ was incomplete, and ‘O’ was “absent from final exam”. F’s were still possible, meaning “Failure with prejudice”, but of course were rarely given.

This headline and “article” makes zero sense. He didn’t make an E. Yes the grading system contains E for failing. so friggin’ what. Obama could have flunked out of Harvard. The world could have been hit by a comet last month ... but it didn’t.

“If the leftist jackals want to start an argument over who is the more intelligent of the two men, they will fail miserably.”

But you are assuming that the leftists will base their argument on facts, which are clearly against their guy, rather than on feelings, in which case they “win” the argument.

Everyone in the MSM “knows” that Obama is sooo brilliant because he spouts all of the same drivel they believe, therefore, he doesn’t have to prove anything to them.

So, all this nonsense of grades and honors received isn’t worth their precious time to investigate - because if it turns out that Obama is actually an affirmative action baby who never should have even been admitted to the schools he attended, what does that say about them?

I got an “F” one grading term in girl’s phys ed, of all things. We were learning how to square dance. Dancing with another girl was something I decided I didn’t want any part of and refused to participate. Even though I had A’s in Trig, Chemistry and English, my parents still grounded me.

I did. I took pottery in art class for two years. It was considered as a trade craft. Same with wood and metal shop which I also took, though neither of those would be considered "art" classes.
(I took the second year more as a "skills honing" course than a learning course since I found it so challenging)

When I went to school in New Zealand we had A-E in hiogh school but the elementry school was 1=5

The way they graded was the top 2 got A the bottom 2 got E

A certain % after the top got B and the bottom got D

The squishy miggle got C

So it would go some thing like

50 students (Yes and only 1 teacher)

Top 2 A

next 20% or 10 B

Middle or 26 C

next 20% or 10 D

Bottom 2 E

My daughter gets one every 9 weeks and interim ones at 4.5 weeks - has been since kindergarten and she starts HS next month.

Grading is pretty tough here as well - 85 is a "C"
