I guarantee that Obama and Axelrod have already (illegally) seen Romney's tax records and know there is nothing wrong with them. If there was some sort of smoking gun in them, Obama would have them leaked (and gleefully reported by the liberal media) in a second.
Axelrod for sure. Obama, maybe not. For one thing, I'm not sure he's smart enough to know what to do with them.
For another, he needs deniability when TSHTF.
