Sen. John McCain today called a Newsweek article alleging tensions with Mitt Romney's presidential campaign "liberal left-wing trash."

In the exclusive article, Newsweek Washington bureau chief and media critic Howard Kurtz reports that McCain has failed in his efforts to counsel Romney and is frustrated with his behind-the-scenes role on the campaign (Kurtz calls him a "caged lion").

"Four years after his own presidential bid, McCain’s luster as a Republican Party spokesman appears to have dimmed: a number of proposed campaign trips on Romney’s behalf have quietly evaporated, and there has been no offer of a speaking slot at the GOP convention,"

He’s been lost for years...

Someone drives him to his job.

His driver should forget to pick him up. I doubt he’d notice.

Newsweek "exclusively" published its own article by its own reporter? That's really something.

Luster’s dimmed, eh? What’s that old saying... you can’t polish a ... something.

Dang! What was it? Turnip? nah. Turkey? Ha ha, no. Turf? That sounds close but not *quite* right...

There is a magazine named “NewsWeek”??

Funny - years ago I used to subscribe to a magazine with the same name.

Didn’t realize it was still around - I thought they were defunct...

“'He’s chomping at the bit to do something,' a McCain aide confides."

That's funny! Too bad he didn't do anything for himself in 2008.

Go watch the Olympics, Johnny.

Back in the day, Newsweek was where you could go to get news and analysis. The magazine was thick, full of stories, photos and ads.

They hid their partisanship fairly well. Prentended non-bias.

This is impossible if the majority of the editors share the same bias. There's no checks and balances.

The readers realized this and quit reading.

Now they are a shell of their past.

A shadow.

Think of the cost savings when they slim down enough to print a month’s content on a postcard. Won’t be long.

Heh heh... I have some suggestions, John, but I think the powers that be would frown on spelling it all out in these hallowed webpages. :-)

Sounds like good news....Romney keeping clear of John McCain..and his buddy, George Soros.

Romney does not need Soros Open Society money, or its influence

This story makes me feel confident Romney will win comfortably in November

He has to stick around a little longer; the people of AZ simply adore him for some bizarre reason. Even Nancy Reagan is on to him.

All they have to do is put on a one-page cover: Be Liberal Like Us, and All Will BE Fine! People would probably buy it too.

The press liked McCain because he was often willing to trash Republicans... They called him a maverick. Ever notice that there aren't any 'mavericks' on the left? The Press hates democrats who try to move of the plantation... so there are NEVER popular (with the press) dems who will trash dems.

That said, McCain's right on this one - Newsweek is left wing trash.

Right, but where was this kind of straight talk 4 years ago when he utterly wasted the Repub presidential slot with a go-along-to-get-along, lib-loving, reach-across-the-aisle, press-butt-licking, lib-@ss-kissing talk & attitude? NOW he utters a truth that people can latch on to? What an f'ing loser this buffoon is. I detest this guy even more than some of the lesser libs.

I feel the same way. The only reason the press 'luved' McCain was he was willing to trash conservatives. None of them would have voted for him if he was the last man on earth. If you want to get fawning press coverage - and you're conservative - trash a fellow conservative. The 'press' will be there with bells on...

Again, 'the press' NEVER anoints a dem 'maverick' a person who stands AGAINST liberal dems. The MSM wouldn't give a dem maverick the time of day... They know a turncoat when they see one...
