A way to help prevent this type of activity in the future would be to require that a valid credit card be swiped before allowing entrance to the store.
Stores don’t want to do stuff like that, since it deters shoppers. They want people coming into their store, the more the better. Any hurdles they throw up to make it harder for customers are going to impact their bottom line.
