I know people love to psychoanalyze politicians and journalists (who are semi-politicians or wanna-be politicians), but sometimes the rational explanation based on self-interest explains the most.
I remember historian and author Michael Bechloss on the Imus show, after Obama was elected. He stated that Obama had the highest IQ of any president ever elected. Imus asked whats his IQ? Bechloss couldn’t answer and then just said he must have the highest.
This is how it works. These historians kiss butt for the next interview.
On the Imus show I once heard Doris Kearns Goodwyn reminiscing about being in the family residence area looking out the window with LBJ. After she said it she shut up and took up a different subject ASAP.
