“Last time I called the cops, it took them 40 minutes to show up.”
Gotcha beat. 54 minutes police response time in what I felt might be a life and death situation. Fortunately I had my .45-70 loaded and ready to rock and roll if the situation “bloomed’ into a real battle.
Which pleased me no end.
One of my neighbors heard someone trying to force her window. She called the cops for a break-in in progress. They arrived in 30 minutes. Happily, the guy was scared off at the lights coming on, although there were marks where he tried to force the window.
But if he hadn’t been scared off...30 minutes. Older woman, limited mobility, alone with a criminal in her house. 54 minutes would be more than enough for her to be tortured to death.
I told her that if it happens again, call me. I’ll be there in 3-5 minutes. But her best bet would be to buy & learn to use a gun herself. A gun on the nightstand is seconds away.
I don’t understand the whole ‘the cops will protect you’ mentality. Cops aren’t there to protect you. They exist to catch the bad guy AFTER the crime. There were plenty of cops near the theater in Aurora. How well did THAT work out for the moviegoers?
Of course, it works fine for the mayor. He has a police escort...
