Not buying it any more. They have to show me real heroism before I'll even pay attention. I surely didn't hear of or see any sign of that in Aurora last week.
Where the hell were these "first responders"??? They claim officers were on the scene after 1-1/2 minutes, which is certainly quick enough. Holmes was captured after TWENTY minutes, nabbed while quietly sitting on his butt long after he walked out when his gun jammed. Where was the guy on the door when he first appeared? Why weren't there officers in that room trying to kill him; were they waiting for the SWAT team? Where was the hail of bullets? How come nobody turned on the lights in the room? Where was the rush to shoot the perp before he killed more people???
Cops are paid for what is supposedly a dangerous job. yet many of them go an entire career without ever seeing real gunfire. They hardly make even a traffic stop alone any more. They get early retirement and outrageous pensions and healthcare provisions. They get training time, the best equipment, goof off outside courtrooms, and hang in parking lots sleeping. We have sergeants in the San Jose PD in California making over $250,000 a year in total compensation. There are jobs in the private sector paying far less with NO benefits with FIFTEEN TIMES the death rate of a police officer.
Public employee unions have mandated a web of gloriously complex "officer safety" provisions that now dominate their training. Well if it's so damned safe now that they can wait for "adequate backup" for over fifteen minutes while the taxpayers, many of them they supported disarming and they are paid to protect, young MEN, cover the bodies of their girlfriends to die at the hands of a psychotic, then it's time to whack that pay, cut those benefits, and have a nice layoff. Maybe that will get their attention.
